Prepping for Sundance 2010

sundance

Yesterday the news was announced that DOUCHEBAG a film I co-wrote and co-produced will be hitting Sundance 2010. I couldn’t be more thrilled. The journey of the movie was long, difficult, empowering, fun, sad, joyous, and fulfilling. We shot the film over a period of two years with a very small group of tight-knit people. We have no movie stars in this film. We didn’t really have a film crew either. We were undoubtedly a guerilla production making an indie movie risking our credit cars and automobiles to do it.

It’s exciting Sundance has made an effort to go back to it’s roots this year and recognize indie movies for indie movies. In the current economic climate it’s still debatable if even with a Sundance boost that this film will hit the world, but now it’s got a fighting chance.

I can’t thank everyone enough for their support. It’s days like this the struggle is entirely worth it and I couldn’t feel more fortunate to be involved in such a crazy business.

I’ll be blogging about Sundance right here, and will try to do some live blogs from Park City.

Love to all,

Lindsay

‘Marveltown’ a Marvel

marveltown

I’ve recently found myself on a sci-fi kick, and being inspired by a genre I never thought I would be a part of.

I just read the new children’s book Marveltown and loved, loved it. If you have a child, or you love your inner child, buy yourself this beautiful book and look at the beautiful images again, and again. Robots have never been so magical.

My new favorite Marveltown quote: “And we’d jump at any chance to make our daydreams come true.”

Amen.

On the Verge of ‘Funny Little Monkey’

funny_little_monkey

I’ve been in the middle of adapting a novel for quite some time now–specifically Andrew Aueson’s FUNNY LITTLE MONKEY. It’s been a process. I’ve never written anything that didn’t originally come from my own hair-brained ideas, but it’s definitely good practice to have been given an assignment.

I’m at that point where I’m trying to crack the third act. Usually when I spend a weekend doing nothing but writing, most characters I am working on slip into my dreams. FUNNY LITTLE MONKEY is set in high school. It’s the story of a 4 foot 2 inch kid who deals with a twin who is 6 foot 2 inches, and tries to survive.

I can relate to the little dude as I live life as an adult at a towering 4 feet 11 inches tall. As a girl, most people found my height adorable as opposed to bothersome, and now I happen to feel the same way. Albeit, recently when I was outside a bar one night a dude ventured to tell me I was nothing more than “almost a person.” I told him he was shorter than the average male, and then I whooped his ass in a wrestling match.

Ironically, even though the protagonist of FUNNY MONKEY has a pretty terrible high school experience, I had a great one. Nonetheless, in the last two nights, I’ve had pretty vivid dreams involving my high school friends showing up in my current life.

Last night’s dream went something like this: Me and my best friend from high school (who happens to be a boy) are living in a beach house. We’re married, but we still look just like our high school selves. We also seem to have no jobs, and no other purpose in life other than to hang out the beach. Unfortunately, this is all I can exactly recall from my dream, but I thought I would document it here nonetheless.

Now, back to writing about a midget.

JESUS PEOPLE at New York City’s Friar’s Club

A little movie I am in called JESUS PEOPLE will play the Friar’s club in New York City this coming weekend. If you live in or around New York, you can buy tickets from the Friar’s Club Comedy Festival.

It’s a goofy little movie with lots of people you might recogonize. If you enjoy complete and utter goofiness, I reccommend it. Also, some of the filmmakers will be there to talk about their achievment on getting a small movie made. Never an easy feat!

SPOONER is Going on a Little Tour

tacomaff

SPOONER, the little film that I wrote, is about to enter its last stretch of festivals for the year. Myself and the director will be visiting the Tacoma Film Festival in the first weekend of October to do a Q and A after the film with the lovely Warren Etheredge of The Warren Report.

We will also be playing the upcoming Heartland Film Festival and the St. Louis International Film Festival, with more to come down the line. The Heartland fest is pretty exciting for me as we are playing huge theatres and tons of my relatives will get to see it on a big screen.

If you happen to be in any of the above mentioned areas, please check it out.

Hot Damn, I Love Blood

linzblood

Last week we shot the making of a vampire. It’s the first time I’ve ever shot anything where I was covered in blood (see above) I don’t want to give away too much, but I absolutely loved it. I think we caught the comedy of a bad horror film along with a little sexuality–exactly what I was going for. It was an absolute thrill, and I now I understand why people who make horror movies sometimes never go back. Thank you director Danielle Corches, fellow actor, David Park and cinematographer Armando Ballesteros for making the night magical.

Spooner Wins Best Feature

waterfall

This was just one snap shot of some of the beautiful scenery we saw in Ashford, Washington where we screened SPOONER at the Rainier Independent Film Festival. Our hosts (Win and Sarah Whittaker) were incredibly gracious. We actually screened the movie in an awesome gymnasium (a first) of an elementary school that now serves as a community center as there actually aren’t enough students to populate it. It’s always refreshing to go screen a movie at a place extremely removed from the industry and to watch people enjoy it. Thanks, Washington, for a great festival.

Could a Vampire Make it with Superman?

supermanwonder

The above question and more will all be answered when SINGLE WHITE VAMPIRE comes to fruition! Steve Basilone stars as Superman. Kelsey Collins stars as Wonderwoman. So much comic book goodness.

This is the Face a Mortal Makes When Having Dinner with a Vampire

date1

The talented Damon Pfaff stars in SINGLE WHITE VAMPIRE as Allen, a man who just wants to find a nice girl…why do they all end up being vampires? Sigh.
